Guide for Brands
UGC Platforms Compared: Pricing, Rights and Payment in 2026
UGC platforms differ most in three things: how they charge (per video, a subscription plus a fee, or a fee on the pay you set), who owns the finished video, and whether your money is held until you approve the work. Compare those three before comparing headline prices, because a cheap video with short usage rights can cost more once you want to run it as an ad.
Four Ways UGC Platforms Charge
Platform pricing pages look alike, but the money moves in four different ways. Knowing which model you are buying tells you what the headline price leaves out.
- Per video from a prepaid balance or credits: you pay a set price for each video, often with fees included (Billo, Trend).
- A subscription plus a percentage: a monthly or quarterly plan, then a fee on each creator payment, with creators quoting their own prices (Insense, JoinBrands, Collabstr campaigns).
- The creator’s listed rates: you buy from a creator’s profile at the price they publish, plus a marketplace fee (Backstage, Collabstr direct hiring).
- A fee on the pay you set: you decide what each creator is paid and a platform fee is added on top (Canvas UGC Marketplace).
Published Pricing, Platform by Platform
Figures are from each platform’s own pricing and help pages on October 22, 2026. Prices change, so check the page before you buy.
| Platform | Published pricing | Who picks the creators |
|---|---|---|
| Billo | From $99 per video, fees included, paid from a prepaid balance. The final price depends on length, creator tier and extras. | You approve applicants and choose Regular or Premium creators. |
| Insense | A plan from $400 a month billed yearly or $500 a month billed quarterly, plus a 7% to 20% fee on creator pay. Creators quote their own prices. | You choose from applicants, with at least 5 matching applicants per campaign. |
| JoinBrands | A free plan with a 15% fee, or $99, $299 or $499 a month with 12%, 10% or 8% fees. You set the price of each job. | You approve applicants, or turn on auto-approval. |
| Collabstr | A free plan with a 10% hiring fee, or $249 or $333 a month billed yearly with a 10% or 5% fee. Creators set their package prices. | You hire directly from profiles or pick from campaign applicants. |
| Backstage | Creators set rates on their profiles. Posting a brief has a charge and a marketplace fee applies, but the amounts are not published. | You pick from applicants or buy from a profile. |
| Trend | Prepaid credit packs from $550 to $3,872, about $69 to $92 per video, with no subscription. | You approve applicants. |
Who Owns the Video
Ownership decides what you can do with a video later, such as running it as a paid ad a year from now. Each platform states it differently.
| Platform | Rights as the platform states them |
|---|---|
| Billo | All rights are assigned to the brand once the order is paid and the videos are accepted (terms effective September 23, 2026). |
| Insense | The creator keeps copyright; the brand gets a perpetual right to use approved, paid content in digital channels. |
| JoinBrands | All rights to the content transfer to the brand on full payment. |
| Collabstr | Agreed per order. Rights transfer only if the accepted order says so; otherwise the brand gets a limited license. |
| Backstage | An exclusive license when paid on Backstage: organic use for up to 12 months and paid use for up to 6 months. The creator keeps copyright. |
| Trend | The pricing page says approved content is fully licensed for websites, social, ads and shopping listings. Its linked terms use different license wording, so confirm the scope in writing. |
How Your Money Is Held
- Held until you approve: JoinBrands describes its payments as escrow. Collabstr holds funds until you approve, and approves automatically if 72 hours pass without a revision request.
- Taken up front, released on approval: Insense pays creators from a balance you top up when you finish a deal. Backstage takes payment when you order and releases it when you approve.
- Charged when you order: Billo charges when the order is created and pays creators directly as your payment agent.
- Prepaid credits: Trend sells credit packs and says you are not charged for a creator who does not deliver.
Questions to Ask Before You Choose
- What will the whole campaign cost, including subscriptions, percentage fees and card fees, not just the video price?
- Do I own the videos, or license them? For how long, and does the license cover paid ads?
- Is my money held until I approve, and what happens if I never respond?
- Do I choose the creators myself, and can I see their real past work first?
- How many revisions are included, and how are disputes decided?
How It Works on Canvas UGC Marketplace
- You set the creator’s pay: one total per creator for the agreed videos, shown to the creator before they accept.
- A platform fee of 10% of creator pay by default is added on top, set per campaign and never more than 50%. Card deposits carry Stripe’s 2.9% + $0.30 fee, shown as its own line.
- Ownership is written into the offer before anyone films, and both sides keep the same accepted copy.
- A campaign holds the money for an agreement before a creator can accept it, and a video is paid when you approve it or its review time runs out.
- You review the work creators choose to share before you send an offer.
