General
What is Canvas UGC Marketplace?
Canvas UGC Marketplace is a marketplace where brands hire creators to make short videos (user-generated content, or UGC) for TikTok and Instagram. Brands publish a campaign, review the work creators choose to share, and send an offer with the pay, schedule and rights written out. Both sides keep the same accepted copy of the terms.
Who can join Canvas UGC Marketplace?
Brands and creators can both create accounts. The first release is open to a small group of invited testers, so new accounts currently need an invite code.
Which social platforms does Canvas UGC Marketplace support?
TikTok and Instagram. Creators connect their own TikTok account, or an Instagram professional account through Instagram Login, with each platform’s official sign-in. The connection is read-only: Canvas UGC Marketplace never posts, sends messages or manages ads on a creator’s behalf.
Are creator profiles public?
No. A creator’s profile, account statistics, recent posts and record are visible to signed-in brands only. They are not shown to signed-out visitors or search engines.
For Brands
How much does Canvas UGC Marketplace cost for brands?
Brands pay the creator pay they offer, plus a platform fee added on top, set per campaign (20% by default, never more than 50%) and shown before the campaign is published. Card deposits into the wallet carry Stripe’s card processing fee (2.9% plus $0.30) as a separate line. There is no subscription.
When is a brand’s money taken?
A brand adds money to its wallet by card, between $10 and $20,000 per deposit. Publishing a campaign locks the creator pay and platform fee for every creator place from the wallet. A creator is paid for a video only once it is approved.
What happens if a brand does not review a video in time?
Each offer sets a review time per video, between 48 hours and 7 days. If the brand has not approved, asked for changes or rejected the video by then, Canvas UGC Marketplace approves it and it is paid.
Can a brand ask for changes to a video?
Yes. A brand can request at most 2 changes per video, and the creator has 5 days to send a replacement. A brand can also ask for a draft to approve before a video is posted, if the offer says so.
Can a brand get unspent money back?
Yes. A brand can ask for unspent wallet money back. Money locked to a campaign returns to the wallet when no agreement, open offer or open creator place needs it, and closing a campaign returns the rest. The card processing fee is not refunded, because Stripe does not return it.
For Creators
Does Canvas UGC Marketplace take a cut of creator pay?
No. The pay in an offer is what the creator receives. The platform fee is charged to the brand on top and is never deducted from the creator’s pay.
How and when do creators get paid?
Through Stripe Connect, in 119 supported countries. When a video is approved, its share of the pay becomes payable. Payable amounts are grouped every Friday and sent once they reach US $25, or once the oldest has waited 28 days.
What can a creator do if a brand rejects a video?
The creator can dispute the rejection within 5 days. A person at Canvas UGC Marketplace reviews the dispute and decides it. Disputes are never decided automatically.
What happens to delivered work if an agreement is cancelled?
Either side can cancel with a reason. Cancelling stops new work, but approved videos stay paid, videos under review keep their deadlines, and an open dispute continues. Only money for undelivered work returns to the brand.
Ownership and Rights
Who owns the videos made through Canvas UGC Marketplace?
Ownership is agreed by both parties in each offer. The creator keeps ownership (with an optional extra payment per video for reuse), grants an exclusive license for 3, 6 or 12 months, or transfers copyright. Rights pass only for a video that is approved and paid.
How does paid reuse work?
When the creator keeps ownership, the offer can include a reuse price per video for organic use, paid ads or both, for 3, 6 or 12 months or open-ended, in a stated region. The brand requests reuse per approved video and the creator has 7 days to accept.
What is a Canvas record?
After an agreement ends, the brand records how it ended and each side can leave one review. Standing labels (such as Established or Proven for creators) are calculated from those records. They cannot be bought or edited, and a record is not an identity check or a guarantee about future work.
